the king of pretty from junk

Steve by Zac Freeman

I came across these amazing portraits made out of trash which were titled the Assemblage Series. I'm all for recycling -when it comes down to it, isn't the point of recycling to make the world a more beautiful place? Hats off to Zac Freeman for his artistic eye and environmentally friendly concept. He shows his work internationally. See shows/locations and other images -with intricate detail shots- on his website.

It's eye candy... Doesn't it look like icing? Like you could just swipe your finger across it and taste the goodness of the rainbow. Like Skittles. Thanks to the designer Carolyn Sewell, we have this lovely graphic. See others on her flickr stream! It's hand lettered heaven. :)

Original sketches of the costumes for Black Swan from Kate Mulleavy of Rodarte were shared here. Lovely.

measure in love

Swiss graphic designer, Markus Kraft contributed this concept art to the opening show of the new gallery, <Between>, in London. It immediately made me think of Rent with its theory of relativity reference.

Check out the Type Directors Club for interesting typography and overall visual goodness.

wishing i was there

Oh, New York, how I love you.

Well, obviously.

But I particularly wish I could be there next Thursday to see Milton Glaser speak (FREE) at the Creative Mornings gathering which is going to be held at the SVA Theater. Would bring back some early college memories, for sure, as well as many new ideas and people.

starbucks goes under the (exacto) knife

The new Starbucks logo -typeless, which goes into action this spring, seems a bit unfinished to me. Personally, I prefer the current 1992 version, with its conclusive circular border. Normally, I'm not into borders, either. I'm definitely a fan of cutouts and block printing style and play with positive/negative space, but this just makes me think my coffee/tea is going to be leaking all over the place... Probably a "normal" consumer wouldn't be concerned, but I would like to see a definitive logo, rather than one that looks like a rush job. After all, no other coffee shop gives me free drinks on my birthday.

btw: levi's

Did you know that originally, Levi's denim only came "shrink to fit"? Talk about evolution!

well hello 2011. here's to another year chock full of creativity and awesomeness.

Since I've been quite busy this past holiday season and haven't had the time I would like to post everything I have loved, I did want to mention all those email blasts I get every day. As part of my holiday promotional emails, I received this little blurb from Wacom. Aside from Bergdorf Goodman's daily promo pieces (which are year round helpings of electronic design lover eye candy), this is the only thing, which was not created solely for me, that I filed away in the archive of my email. Partially because all those emails were filled with offers that would expire within a day, but also because they were not that interesting or fun to look at, or particularly well-wishing, considering the season. Thanks, Wacom, for always being there for a creative soul. I wanted to extend this season's greetings since it is still fitting for new year's. Make 2011 rock. Cheers!
